Scaring the Kids

They'll Probably Need Therapy Anyway

Hello? Still There?

It’s been awhile.

I’m here. I’ve just been hiding. Photo by Ahmed on Pexels

Well, my goal of consistent writing hasn’t worked out too well.

No matter. I will pick myself up, shake off my sheet, and get back to it.

Where have I been, you ask? Well, kinda busy. My semester really started to pick up, and I became mired in grading and all of the business of life with kiddos. And some not-so-great life stuff. That’s been hard, but I’m gonna be ok.

Some good stuff has happened, though. I decided that I wanted to make some money on the side in a way that allows me to maintain the flexibility I have as a teacher. And you know what? I did it!

I am now a freelance editor and will soon be doing some copy writing as well. Truthfully, I like editing better. Blog writing (the kind that can make money) is pretty much the opposite of academic and creative writing. More than opposite, really. It’s almost like internet writing is using academic writing as toilet paper.

Oh well. I love a challenge! And this is a challenge.

That reminds me: super props to Gale Courses. I can take them free through my library and they really helped launch my freelance career. I have learned so much. For free! Library cards are amazing! And you get a certificate when you finish. It’s very satisfying.

So that’s it, really. I plan to pick up my journey through postpartum because, oh my goodness, I have yet to meet a mom whose eyes didn’t seem to retreat to a place far away and painful when she recounts those first few months of motherhood.

I also plan to try out some copy writing techniques once in awhile. But I don’t think I can leave behind my long-form style completely. There will be growing pains, but that’s what’s so great about having such a small readership–no one will notice a thing! Ha!

I hope you are all well and thriving. Until next time!
